USAA names SVP, general counsel; GEICO's new chief people officer

Julie McPeak has joined USAA as senior vice president and general counsel for insurance. McPeak joins from Root, where she was senior deputy general counsel. She also previously served as the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and as the executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance.

GEICO announced Shannon Hobbs is joining the company as its new chief people officer. Hobbs will focus on recruiting, talent development, corporate HR and diversity and inclusion. Hobbs previously worked at American Century Investments and JPMorgan Chase.

Tom Bolt was appointed executive vice president and chief risk officer at AIG. Bolt replaces Sabra Purtill, who was recently named executive vice president and chief investment officer for AIG’s life and retirement business. Bolt has served as a chief underwriting officer of general insurance since 2018. He joined the company from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance and previously held positions with Lloyds of London.

Allstate announced the retirement of Don Civgin, the vice chair and CEO of protection products and services. Terrance Williams will replace Civgin, who will leave the company in May. Civgin became president and CEO of Allstate Financial in 2012 and vice chair of the Allstate Corporation in 2019.

Teresa L. White, president of Aflac U.S., is retiring next March. During her time with the company, White expanded technology innovation tools and solutions and reimagined the customer experience, according to a press release. Aflac executive leadership is working on a successor.

Sherry Chan has joined Atidot, an insurtech focused on AI and ML solutions for the life insurance and annuity industry, as chief strategy officer. Chan was previously the chief actuary for the city of New York for seven years. Chan is also on the board of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Scott Janik was promoted to senior vice president of the insurance services group at CCC Intelligent Solutions. Janik joined CCC in 2007 and has since served as the group vice president of the insurance services group since 2012. Janik is taking over the position previously held by Barrett Callaghan who was promoted to executive vice president, markets and customer success last year.
