MetLife announced its plans to hire about 400 people for its Global Technology and Operations organization throughout the rest of the year.
The Global Technology Hub is in Cary, North Carolina, an area of the state known as the Research Triangle, which also includes cities like Raleigh.
MetLife plans to hire employees with skills in software engineering, data science, cybersecurity and reengineering to expand its data insights and customer solutions.
Bill Pappas, head of GTO, said in a statement: "The excitement and passion we're seeing from our employees in Cary is undoubtedly a reflection of the innovative work we're doing here at MetLife as we live our company purpose by putting the customer at the center of everything we do. Our employees are our most important asset, and I believe that investing in talent is what separates us from others in the space. It's certainly an energizing time to be at MetLife, and I look forward to seeing many new employees soon."
The news is a divergence from other companies specifically in tech, including Amazon and Meta, that have laid-off staff and put a freeze on hiring because of fears around inflation and market pressures.
