Liberty Mutual Plans Telematics Expansion in Two Programs

Liberty Mutual has announced expansions of its pay-per-mile and pay as you drive telematics programs.

The Boston-based carrier will now reward customers enrolled in its ByMile “pay-as-you-drive” program with lower premiums if they drive less frequently per month. ByMile is currently only available in Illinois, but will be expanded to additional states this year, the company said in a press release.

Liberty Mutual also announced the expansion of its usage-based insurance mobile app to benefit customers. The company plans to roll out a new RightTrack application for its UBI offering in five states next month, including Colorado, Ohio and Wisconsin, with additional states planned throughout the year.

RightTrack complements Liberty Mutual's just released HighwayHero app, which tracks and scores driving behavior while allowing users to gauge performance against other local drivers on city leaderboards. Drivers in 16 states are currently eligible for discounts from Liberty Mutual based on their scores, according to the insurer.

“Liberty Mutual Insurance is constantly identifying new ways to leverage technology to add additional value for our customers,” said Hamid Mirza, SVP of product strategy and solutions at Liberty Mutual Insurance, in a statement. “Thanks to new telematics technology, we are able to further customize insurance premiums, encourage safer driving habits and offer new discounts."
