Home insurtech Hippo's tech-hiring spree brings first CIO

Hippo, an insurtech that provides home insurance in 34 states, has announced a series of major additions to its technology organization, including the company's first CIO and CISO.

Led by CTO Ran Harpaz, the tech organization at the company now includes Klarissa Marenitch as CIO. She has oversite of IT, corporate technology, information security, business and insurance systems, and employee productivity. She last held the same role at Anaplan, an enterprise software company; her experience also includes stints at Redbox, Sun Microsystems, Kohl’s and Macys.

Hippo also hired Tal Hornstein, a veteran of multiple security-related startups and tech firms, as CISO. His experieence includes time at Globality Inc. and Skybox Security. Hornstein is responsible for driving information security strategy and operations for Hippo and scaling its information security team, secure cloud infrastructure and development lifecycle, user education, compliance and risk governance.

The company also added Ruben Kogel as director of data and analytics. Most recently at the scooter-sharing company Lime, Kogel will oversee a center-of-excellence in data and analytics, and support scaling the company’s data science efforts.

Other additions to the Hippo tech team include Lukasz Strozek, VP of product engineering; Dalit Shahar, VP of engineering operations; and Mike Gordon, VP of platform engineering. Shahar and Gordon joined Hippo in 2019; their appointments are promotions.
