Digital Insurance's DigIn podcast relaunches with Pinnacol Assurance executive

Remember when employees worked five days a week in an office and their workspace was in a commercial building rather than their dining room or a home office? Quite a bit has changed since the pandemic and so have the needs of employers who are more likely to have their workforces spread across the country rather than located in just a specific geographic area.

In the first installment of Digital Insurance's updated DigIn podcast, we chat with Kathy Kranz, vice president and chief financial officer of Pinnacol Assurance and a 2023 Women in Insurance Leadership honoree for her innovation in the workers' comp space.

In the podcast, Kranz discusses the impact of the pandemic on the marketplace as employers adjusted to a new, more flexible work environment and the effect it has had on workers' compensation insurance. One area that Pinnacol specializes in is coverage for small businesses, which often have unique challenges and needs, and Kranz highlights some of solutions her company has devised for this frequently underserved market.

Another unexpected outcome from the pandemic was the speed at which carriers had to adopt new technologies and create remote workforces almost overnight. As insurance technology has continued to evolve, adoption in the workers' comp space has moved at a steady pace and Kranz explains how insurtech is changing the field and what advances have been introduced over the last 18 months.

She also shares how the company is partnering with MGAs to expand their network and services beyond their base in Colorado. Pinnacol sees the value of adding new technology and opportunities in a collaborative and thoughtful approach and is exploring other expansion opportunities.
