Micruity, a data-management and -aggregation platform for annuitities, took home the first-place prize in ACORD's Insurtech Innovation Challenge. A total of 10 companies competed in the virtual event, which awarded $10,000 to the winner. Judges for the event included Gabriel Glynn, co-founder of Makusafe (which won last year); Andrew Johnston of Willis Re, Jim Rogers of The Hartford; and Paul Tyler of Nassau Re.
Startup-support organization InsurTech NY, plans to run a Virtual Matchmaking Expo on Oct. 29. The virtual event compreises a job fair and networking event for companies and interested professionals. The organization says there are more than 1,500 open positions at insurtechs currently, despite the pandemic-driven unemployement crisis. "Hosting a virtual expo for InsurTechs is the safest and most effective way to match growing InsurTechs with prospective co-founders, executives, advisors, and board members," said David Gritz, InsurTech NY Managing Director.
Homeowners insurtech Openly has added seven employees to its operations team. A newly formed team will focus on analytics, forecasting and prioritization. The leader is Danielle Wyman, VP of Insurance Strategy and Operations, who last was Senior Director of Global Strategy for Liberty Mutual.
